During the fall of the '83 El Nino when the storms were battering the coast and all surfers where enthralled with the amazing surf, TJ was born in Long Beach, California. This self taught Socal native has been creating varied art pieces almost all of his life and on anything that needed some color or just to add some beauty. From cars to surfboards, sculptures to millwright work, canvases to his newest canvas the human body with his tattoo designs. He has always had a love of nature and specifically of the ocean. In his teenage years this brought him to discover another one of his loves; Surfing. He has an active lifestyle which is portrayed into his work. You’ll always find him up to something from skating along the beach and kayaking to inland activities like hiking, camping and off roading in the mountains. This is all in between working on one piece or another. There’s always a piece in the works if not more stacked in between the surfboards on the racks. Surfing, Nature and the world around him has influenced his work. He has always loved art from all through history and now studies their techniques to improve his style, and just for the joy of learning. He has contemporary influences such as the surf artists Drew Brophy, Tom Laura and Greg Knoll. Though TJ’s major medium is paint, he can work with most media due to his back ground in construction, welding, woodworking and Machinist work. This vast back ground gives him variety in what materials he can use in a piece. TJ’s philosophy on art is the same as his outlook on life and surfing. You have to have fun with what you’re doing. You have to love it and you can’t forget to smile.
